Tom Hofheimer was a beloved community leader, a wonderful human being and engaged citizen. The Thomas Hofheimer Fund serves as a reminder of Tommy’s love and concern for Israel, and of his commitment to help the Jewish community at home and abroad.
Upon his passing in 1985, his wife Marcia and sister Joyce Strelitz established the fund so that physicians from Israel and the U.S could visit each other’s countries to exchange medical information and learn new surgical techniques. The participating physicians were thus enabled to profoundly benefit their communities.
More recently, the focus of the Thomas Hofheimer Fund has evolved to include sponsoring Young Leadership Missions— providing young, prospective leaders here in Tidewater the opportunity to visit Israel together. The hope is that these trips will forge an intimate lifelong connection to the Jewish community here and abroad, and further Tommy’s commitment to help strengthen the Jewish community.
For over twenty years, this endowment has provided a means for our family to experience the joy of sharing and giving, and has served as a means to pass these values down to our children and grandchildren. Tom would be proud to know that his memory is honored in this way.
